PROGRAM CHAIR

Michael Wechsler, MD, MMSc
Director, The Cohen Family Asthma Institute
Professor of Medicine

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Severe asthma is a chronic and burdensome disease that can be difficult to manage optimally. Numerous biologic therapies are available to treat severe asthma, particularly for individuals with T2-high asthma, in which the inflammatory cytokine IL-5 drives elevated eosinophil levels. This enduring program is designed to help practitioners develop patient-centered strategies to diagnose and treat severe, eosinophilic asthma through case discussions and a review of guideline recommendations, clinical data, and best practices.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of pulmonologists, allergists, and associated advanced practice providers (APPs, eg, nurse practitioners, physician associates) involved in the management of patients with severe eosinophilic asthma.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Summarize the pathophysiology of T2 inflammation in severe asthma, including the role of IL-5 and eosinophils
- Create a plan for accurate assessment, diagnosis, and differentiation of related comorbidities when a patient presents with symptoms of severe asthma
- Assess data supporting current and emerging treatment options targeting T2 inflammation in severe asthma
- Incorporate equitable, patient-centered, and collaborative strategies in individualized severe asthma treatment plans
