PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This educational activity will target healthcare providers who care for women transitioning through menopause, including those experiencing vasomotor symptoms (VMS) related to cancer endocrine therapy. The program is designed to strengthen clinicians’ understanding of the neurokinin (NK) pathway and its role in linking VMS with sleep disturbances, while reviewing the clinical evidence for emerging nonhormonal therapies, including NK receptor antagonists, across diverse patient populations. It shares patient perspectives and emphasizes the importance of shared decision-making and evidence-based communication strategies to address risk considerations and individualized treatment planning to support optimal management of menopausal VMS.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The educational initiative is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals, including OB/GYNs; advanced practice providers specializing in women’s health (NPs, PAs, APRNs, CNMs, and RNs); primary care physicians (family medicine and internal medicine); pharmacists; and medical oncologists.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Identify mechanisms of neurokinin pathway to link VMS with sleep disturbances and when to consider non-hormonal therapies for women transitioning through menopause.
- Integrate clinical evidence for emerging non-hormonal therapies targeting the neurokinin pathway for the treatment of VMS in women, including oncology patients experiencing VMS related to endocrine therapy
- Utilize evidence-based communication strategies that support shared decision-making and improve patient understanding of therapeutic options, risk considerations, and their role in managing VMS due to menopause.
