PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This virtually live activity is designed to help clinicians simultaneously address weight management and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Along with didactic instruction, the activity will include small group case-study discussions to provide practice in identifying and treating patients who would benefit from a weight-centric approach to type 2 diabetes management, ultimately improving outcomes of patients affected by this complex, chronic disease.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This educational activity is intended for US primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who treat patients with T2DM and obesity.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Intensify or change therapy according to guidelines when patients with T2DM fail to meet their weight management and/or glycemic goals
- Integrate weight loss into treatment strategies for patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity/overweight using up-to-date guidelines
- Apply clinical data on incretin-based therapies that facilitate both weight management and glycemic control
- Utilize shared decision-making when selecting treatments for patients with type 2 diabetes based on patients’ values, preferences and personal contexts
