PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a burdensome autoimmune condition that affects multiple organ systems within the body. About half of patients with SLE develop lupus nephritis (LN), a serious kidney complication that is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with SLE. In this program, clinicians will learn strategies to diagnose SLE and LN earlier, minimize glucocorticoid toxicity, and evaluate clinical data and cases to guide treatment decisions.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of rheumatologists, rheumatology nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs) involved in the management of SLE.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:

  • Summarize the clinical manifestations of SLE and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment to limit organ damage and disease activity
  • Evaluate the mode of action, efficacy and safety of emerging treatment strategies for SLE management
  • Apply a treat-to-target (T2T) approach involving formalized treatment, monitoring and treatment adjustment to help achieve the sequential goals of lowering disease activity followed by disease remission
