PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis (PDP) is a common non-motor symptom of Parkinson’s disease, affecting approximately 60% of veterans at some point during the disease. PDP is associated with debilitating symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, which considerably impact the quality of life of veterans. The goal here is to assess the impact of PDP on veterans, evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of current treatments, and develop optimal strategies in managing PDP, with the goal of enhancing the overall quality of life for veterans living with Parkinson’s disease.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This CME initiative is designed to meet the educational needs of movement disorder specialists, neurologists, neurology nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and primary care physicians within the U.S. Veterans Administration Health System involved in the management of patients with PDP.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Discuss the impact PDP imparts on veteran patient QoL, including mortality rates
- Describe the clinical efficacy and tolerability profiles of therapies for managing PDP
- Develop strategies for optimally selecting therapies in a timely manner per evidence-based guidelines
