PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This symposium at OMED 2026 is designed to provide osteopathic clinicians with practical, evidence-based guidance on promoting brain health and advancing early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. The program will highlight the importance of brain health across the lifespan and of differentiating normal aging from mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease. It will also address integrating cognitive assessment with emerging blood-based biomarkers and identifying modifiable risk factors to support dementia risk reduction. Through expert presentations and interactive case-based discussions, participants will gain practical skills to interpret cognitive and biomarker findings, communicate results effectively with patients and care partners, and support earlier, patient-centered diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This educational initiative is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals involved in the assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing management of patients across the AD continuum, including primary care clinicians, neurologists, geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Apply evidence-based cognitive health assessment strategies to differentiate normal aging, MCI, and early AD across the disease continuum
- Integrate blood-based biomarker testing into the diagnostic evaluation of suspected AD using guideline-informed test selection and result interpretation
- Implement patient-centered communication strategies to discuss cognitive health, diagnostic testing, and risk modification with patients and care partners
