PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This enduring activity will cover the treatment and management of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for US-based neurologists and primary care providers involved in the management of patients with PD, such as internists, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the program, attendees should be able to:

  • Review the symptom constellation that may not be resolved by traditional levodopa, including postural instability and falls, speech and swallowing difficulties, and non-motor symptoms.
  • Describe the role of different patient factors (age; symptoms; symptom severity; occupational status; lifestyle; cognitive, behavioral, and psychiatric status; and other medical comorbidities) in clinical decision-making, as well as clinical trial evidence supporting the use of multiple interventional therapeutic approaches in the management of Parkinson’s disease (PD)
  • Review the steps required to restore dopaminergic tone in patients with PD
  • Discuss strategies aimed at fostering effective patient communication and shared decision making, as well as comprehensive care and disease management planning, particularly for patients with comorbid conditions
