PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This program will discuss the pathogenesis of prostate cancer, the differences in mechanisms of action between the first- and second-generation anti-androgen drugs for prostate cancer, and identifying patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) who are at elevated risk for metastasis, and management in order to reduce risk.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of urologists, medical oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other multi-disciplinary care professionals involved and/or interested in the therapeutic management of patients with nmCRPC, within the Veterans Affairs health system.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
- Consider the pathogenesis of androgen-driven prostate cancer and the significance of non-metastatic castrate-resistant disease
- Summarize the anti-tumor pharmacodynamics of first- and second-generation anti-androgenic agents in castrate-resistant prostate cancer
- Evaluate relevant efficacy and safety data with second-generation anti-androgen agents in patients with non-metastatic CRPC at high risk for metastasis
